Caption Contest: This Week’s Winner

Right now, I’m writing this from CarDomain’s Los Angeles’ office, and I have to say that all the swimming pools and movie stars are making it kind of hard to concentrate. The other thing that’s making it hard to concentrate? Catching the plane here involved getting up at 4:45, which was as brutal as it sounds. But at least the interior of Virgin America’s planes are soothing. Anyway, enough of my blathering , let’s get down to business. This week’s winner is Russjon, who came up with; “When I said Parallel parking this is not exactly what I had in mind!” Bravo, buddy! Totally Unfair: Veyron vs GT-R

It takes a fast car to make Godzilla look sluggish, but Bugatti’s Veyron, to put it mildly, is one hell of a fast car. It also costs a million bucks more than Nissan’s monster, and every one of those dollars is on display in this clip. I think this kind of comparison, however unfair and kind of silly, is cool because without a benchmark—and let’s face it, a clock can be kind of a boring one—getting some perspective on the Veyron’s insanity-provoking quickness is almost impossible. Bravo to the guys from EVO Magazine for getting to pull of this awesome “test.”

When I first started working at CarDomain, everybody was going crazy over Ron Patrick’s Jet Beetle, so I knew you guys would totally dig this jet-powered Ford F-150. Builder Chris Lentz has wanted a supersonic truck since he was a little kid, and started on the project two years ago after picking up a ’50s era jet designed to power a Czechoslovakian L-29 Delfin trainer. And while the Blue Oval might not have the lofty performance specs of the fighter, it will run the 1/4 mile in a blistering 8.5 seconds. Sure, at full throttle, the 20-gallon fuel tank will be dry in four minutes, but something tells us it’d be a wicked four minutes!
